Legislation

Office of Client’s Rights – OCR – Your Regional Center has advocates that are there to assist. OCR is provided by Disability Rights California and is a great place to start, if you believe the needs of the Regional Center’s client are not being met.

Disability Rights CA – Disability Rights California is a legal firm that is primarily publicly funded and does have a focus on systemic issues on concerns related to Title 17 and the Lanterman Act.

 

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – This law protects the civil rights of those wit disabilities, preventing discrimination in government services, public accommodations and employment venues.

The Developmental Disabilities and Bill of Rights Act (DD Act) – This law encourages states to provide programs to enhance the lives and independence of people with developmental disabilities.

The Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act – Sometimes people with disabilities have to be institutionalized for their own safety and well-being, and this law gives the Department of Justice the right to investigate abuse and neglect issues they may face.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) – This act protects the right to public school education and meaningful education experiences to children with disabilities.
